Working With Full Grain Buffalo Semi-Aniline Leather
At 4/5 oz (roughly 1.6 to 2.0 mm) this buffalo hide has enough body to hold a shape while staying soft enough to fold and stitch, which puts it in the useful middle ground between garment leather and structural leather. It suits handbags and totes, cases and portfolios, lined belts, upholstery panels and footwear uppers.
Hides run 26 to 43 sq. ft., so a single skin covers a large project. Semi-aniline dyeing leaves the natural grain visible, and buffalo hides carry their history: range marks, wrinkles and grain variation across the hide are normal, and they are the reason full grain looks the way it does. Cut main panels from the butt where the fibre is tightest, keep looser belly areas for linings and smaller parts, and allow for slight shade variation between hides when a project needs more than one.
