Description
Oklahoma is a crackle finish cow leather, and the crackle is worked on the flesh side of the hide rather than the grain. That side carries the aniline-dyed crackle, breaking into a fine two-tone pattern that lets the darker base read through the lighter top; turn the hide over and you have the natural grain leather. One side, two very different surfaces, and either can be the face of the piece. Sides run 22-24 square feet at 3/4 oz. (1.2-1.6 mm) and are stocked in Black, Dark Brown, Rustic Brown, Taupe, Natural, Dark Olive, Plum and Red.
Why Choose Crackle Finish Cow Leather
- Two usable faces – the crackle finish on the flesh side, natural grain leather on the other
- Aniline dyed, so the movement of the crackle and the grain on the reverse both stay visible
- Soft, supple hand that cuts, folds and stitches without fighting
- Useful 3/4 oz. weight – enough body for belts and bags, still workable by hand
- Eight stocked shades, from quiet Natural and Taupe through to Plum and Red
Best Uses for Crackle Finish Cow Leather

Ordering
Crackle finish cow leather is sold by the side, and each one falls within the size range you choose. Decide which face is the outside before cutting. The crackle varies in density across a hide and between hides – that variation is the finish, not a fault – so cut matching panels from the same area, and order all of one color together when a project has to match.
