Premium Quality A/B Grade Natural Veg Tanned (Tooling Stamping) Leather: Vegetable Tanning is a method of hide tanning that utilizes materials from organic materials such as bar…

Description

Natural veg tan tooling leather is the classic carving and stamping hide – vegetable tanned with bark rather than chrome salts, undyed, and left in crust so the surface is completely open. It cases with water, holds a stamp, tools cleanly and darkens to a honey patina with use and sunlight. Double shoulders run 13-16 square feet at 8/9 oz. (3.2-3.6 mm).

Why Choose Natural Veg Tan Tooling Leather

  • Bark tanned, so it cases, tools, stamps and wet-forms the way chrome leather never will
  • Undyed and untopcoated – takes dye, antique, oil and stain evenly
  • Burnishes to a hard, glassy edge with water or gum
  • Cut from double shoulders, the firmest part of the hide, with little stretch
  • Heavy 8/9 oz. substance – the standard weight for belts, holsters and harness
  • Ages to a deep honey tone rather than wearing out

The Leather

Ordering

Natural veg tan tooling leather is sold by the piece, and each one falls within the size range you choose. Undyed veg tan marks easily before it is sealed – keep it dry, work with clean hands and store it out of direct sunlight until you are ready, as it tans in daylight. Cut straps along the length, parallel to the backbone, for the least stretch.
