Description
Black semi veg tan lambskin is a full-grain hide tanned on a semi-vegetable process and drum dyed through, so a cut edge shows the same black as the face. The semi-veg tannage is what sets it apart from an ordinary garment lambskin: it takes edge finish and burnishing far better, and it ages and softens with use rather than staying inert. Hides run 8-11 square feet at 2 oz. (0.7-0.9 mm).

Because the tannage takes finishing well, it rewards a burnished or painted edge on small goods – test your edge finish on an offcut first, as it strikes differently from chrome-tanned stock.
