Latigo Veg Tan Leather is a premium cowhide, durable, and versatile leather that is vegetable-tanned with natural extracts, making it ideal for leatherworking projects.

Description

Latigo leather is the traditional harness and saddlery hide: domestic heifer and steer sides, vegetable tanned with natural extracts and then stuffed with oils and waxes so the leather stays strong, water-resistant and pliable under load. It is the leather that holds a buckle and takes daily strain without drying out or tearing. Sides run 22-25 square feet in 7/8 oz. (2.8-3.2 mm) and 9/10 oz. (3.6-4.0 mm), in Black, Brown and Burgundy.

Why Choose Latigo Leather

  • Vegetable tanned and heavily oil-stuffed – it stays supple instead of going brittle with age
  • Built for strain: the classic choice for cinches, reins, straps and anything that carries load
  • Naturally water-resistant from the wax and oil content, so it handles weather and sweat
  • Two weights: 7/8 oz. for belts and straps, 9/10 oz. for harness, holsters and heavy work
  • Large 22-25 sq. ft. sides from domestic heifer and steer hides, consistent enough for production runs

Best Uses for Latigo Leather

  • Saddlery, cinches, latigos, reins and tack
  • Belts, heavy straps, dog collars and leads
  • Holsters, sheaths and rigging
  • Bag straps, handles and luggage fittings
  • Upholstery and furniture straps where strength matters more than softness

Ordering

Latigo leather is sold by the side, and each one falls within the size range you choose. The oil content means the surface can look slightly different from hide to hide and may darken where it is worked or burnished – that is the leather doing what it should. Because it is already stuffed, latigo does not take tooling or carving the way a natural veg tan does; for that see our Tooling Leather. For related weights see Belting Leather, our wider Vegetable Tanned Leather range, or ready-cut Belt Straps. For current stock or volume pricing, email Info@Avetcoinc.com or call 818-890-6680.
