Neutral Pig Full Grain Leather – Taiwan
This neutral pig leather collection brings together eight wearable shades of good quality full grain pigskin from Taiwan, from pale Beige and Taupe through Cognac, Olive and deep Java. The leather is thin, smooth and supple, so it is a favorite for linings, handbags, footwear and apparel. Buy a single hide for one project, or take the 200 sq. ft. bundle and save.
What Tannery Run Means
The 200 sq. ft. bundle is tannery run, an A/B/C run: the hides come as they leave the tannery, mixed across grades, without sorting out the lower ones. Some will be as clean as our single hides, others will carry heavier marks. Most have a good usable center, but expect some scratches, bites, small holes, color variation and more cutting loss, especially toward the edges. Single hides are picked from the better skins, so choose those when you need cleaner leather for visible panels.
Why Pigskin Shows Scratches
Every full grain pig hide shows scratches, scars and some holes, even in the better grades. This is normal for pigskin and a sign of genuine full grain leather:
- Group housing: pigs naturally nudge, fight and crowd together in tight spaces, which leaves scratches on the skin.
- Coarse bristle removal: removing the stiff hairs leaves distinct, deep triangular puncture marks that make the surface texture uneven.
- No protective coat: pigs have bristles rather than dense, cushioning fur, so the skin is less protected.
- Dense fiber structure: pig skin has tightly packed fibers that lock surface scars into the grain as the hide cures.
None of this makes pigskin a poor leather. Marks and small holes come with the hair follicles and are simply how pig hides are, at every grade. Pig leather is the standard lining leather of the trade because it is thin, strong, breathable and easy to cut and sew, and it costs far less than cow, lamb or buffalo. Cutters plan around the marks and use the clean center for visible panels.

- 1 Hide – good quality: approx. 16–18 sq. ft., $53.40 each (about $3.14 per sq. ft.). Hides are picked from the better skins.
- 200 Sq. Ft. Bundle – tannery run (A/B/C run): approx. 12–13 hides, $462.00 (about $2.31 per sq. ft.). A mix of grades as it comes from the tannery, so expect some scratches and holes.
The bundle works out to roughly 26% less per square foot, which reflects the tannery run grade and suits linings and production cutting.
