Veg tanned bellies are the side panels of the hide, cut away from the bend and sold separately – natural, undyed and bark tanned like our tooling shoulders, but softer and looser in the fibre. That makes them the economical way to buy veg tan for small work: you pay less per foot, and for a wallet or a set of keyfobs the extra stretch rarely matters. Pieces run 2-2.75 or 3-3.75 square feet at 3/4 oz. (1.2-1.6 mm), sold singly or as a 2-hide pack. This is an economy grade on clearance at a special price, while stock lasts.

Veg tanned bellies are sold by the piece, or as a 2-hide pack of the same size. The pack ships in one box, so it costs less to ship than two bellies ordered separately. Belly fibre is looser than bend or shoulder, so it stretches more – back any strap cut from it, and keep belts and load-bearing straps to firmer stock. Undyed veg tan marks before it is sealed, so keep it dry, work with clean hands and store it out of direct sunlight.
