Description
Vegetable tan sole leather bends are the heaviest stock we carry – 10/11 oz., about 7/8 iron, cut from the bend, which is the densest and most uniform part of the hide. Bark tanned in the drum and left natural, they are firm enough to stand as a sole or a holster wall and still take tooling and stamping. Bends run 8-11 square feet.
Why Choose Vegetable Tan Sole Leather
- Cut from the bend – the firmest, tightest-fibred part of the hide, with almost no stretch
- 10/11 oz. (4.0-4.4 mm), heavy enough for soles, holsters and structural work
- Bark tanned, so it wet-forms, tools, stamps and burnishes properly
- Undyed and untopcoated, so it takes dye, oil and antique evenly
- Dense fibre resists water penetration and holds a moulded shape
Best Uses for Vegetable Tan Sole Leather
- Shoe and boot soles, heel lifts and midsoles
- Holsters, sheaths and moulded cases
- Heavy belts, gun belts and harness
- Saddlery, tack and strapping
- Tooling and carving where the piece must hold its shape

Ordering
Vegetable tan sole leather is sold by the piece, and each one falls within the size range you choose. At this weight you will want a head knife or a heavy-duty blade – a light craft knife will not go through cleanly – and stitching is best pre-punched. Undyed veg tan marks before it is sealed, so keep it dry and out of direct sunlight until you are ready to finish it. For lighter tooling weights see our Tooling Leather range, our Vegetable Tanned Leather, or Belting Leather. For current stock or volume pricing, email Info@Avetcoinc.com or call 818-890-6680.
Disclaimer: These leathers are free of PCP, Azo Pigments, Chrome VI, Formaldehyde, and APEO.
